The last comic I’m going to recommend is God Hates Astronauts by Ryan Browne. I remember funding the Kickstarter for the original graphic novel last year (in fact, I got to pick up my copy at C2E2 2013). I was immensely entertained by just how off the wall bonkers the entire thing was. The characters were both original and hilarious takes on popular heroes, the battles ranged from gory to flat out ridiculous, and the back-up material made me laugh harder than I ever have before. Seriously, where else would you find an origin that involved someone being struck by a flying sex toy?

So I was excited to learn that not only was the graphic novel picked up by Image Comics, but that it will be returning as an ongoing series. I picked up the preview issue and was happy to see that the same insanity lives on in this new installment. Characters have returned, new characters are introduced, and a great deal of ridiculousness ensues. I can’t wait until the series begins and I’ll make sure to support it when it does.

You can read the original webcomic here, buy the graphic novel here and here, and follow the creator on Twitter here.

I also went and saw Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier on Monday. I really enjoyed it. I was surprised at how dark it got and how violent it was. There wasn’t a lot of blood, but the ways people were dying were not what I expected in Captain America. I think that’s what made it work, though. It was to show you how high the stakes were and it worked. I won’t give much away, but I liked it a lot. It was probably the best of the Phase 2 sequels (or whatever they’re on). I’m excited for Avengers 2, but I’m really excited to see Guardians of the Galaxy because I loved Slither and Super. Hopefully, it will be that same level of fun and crazy.
