Today is the day that my other comic, Clusterf@#k, is released. You should check it out. It’s a bit different from Secrets and Shadows, but it has some similar elements.

I went to see Guardians of the Galaxy on Saturday and I have to say that I enjoyed it.

It was fun and it didn’t take itself seriously. All I wanted was to be entertained and the movie did just that. No complaints.

It actually got me thinking, when was the last time we had an upbeat sci-fi movie that was made from a relatively unknown intellectual property? Seriously, all of the newer original sci-fi films are usually grim and gritty. This was something I’d gladly watch over again and laugh at the jokes like they were the first time I’d heard them (in some cases, it would be as the crowd laughed over some gems).

I can understand the Star Wars comparisons because like Star Wars, this film came out of nowhere. It was essentially unlike any of the films we’ve seen recently. It was essentially fun and didn’t take itself too seriously. For a lot of people who were born after Star Wars, the closest we’ve come to something like this were the prequels. Of course, you couldn’t say you enjoyed the prequels without being shouted down by everyone and their grandmother because the ORIGINALS were the best and the prequels were an UNHOLY ABOMINATION! The Star Trek remake? Nope, because people would tell you why it wasn’t a REAL Star Trek film.

With GotG, it feels like you could enjoy it and no one will tell you you’re wrong for it. It’s been universally accepted (give or take a few critics). You’ll soon have people quoting it back and forth, talking about their favorite scenes, and talking about how excited they are for the sequel. Just like the people who saw Star Wars in theaters. Maybe that’s a stretch, but I can understand people believing it.

So if you haven’t seen it yet, you should. It was worth it. Even if it doesn’t shatter your expectations, you’ll have seen one of the better films that came out this year.
